STORY

The Cobra began when Carroll Shelby asked AC Cars of Thames Ditton to supply the lightweight Ace roadster without its engine, so that he could fit a Ford V8. The first cars, from 1962, used a 260 cu in V8. The 289 cu in version followed in 1963.

The 427 arrived in 1965 with a stronger chassis, coil springs and a 427 cu in engine. It was built until 1967. A later MkIV, built by Autokraft, was produced from 1982 to 1996.
