The M5 was the first model of AITO, a brand created in late 2021 by the Chinese automaker Seres together with Huawei, under Huawei's Smart Selection retail programme. It debuted as a mid-size SUV with a range-extender powertrain: a small petrol engine that works only as a generator, plus electric drive motors. It was among the first vehicles built around Huawei's HarmonyOS cockpit and DriveONE electric drive system. A fully electric M5 EV followed in 2022, and a heavily updated version arrived in 2023 with Huawei's ADS driver-assistance hardware. The M5 was sold through Huawei's own retail stores. It set the template for the rest of the AITO range: a Seres-engineered car with Huawei software and electronics.
The AITO M5 is a mid-size premium SUV unveiled in December 2021, with deliveries from 2022. It was the first model of the AITO brand, created by Seres together with Huawei. It is sold mainly as an EREV (extended-range electric vehicle): a battery-electric drivetrain plus a petrol generator that extends the range. A pure-electric version came later. Its cockpit runs Huawei's HarmonyOS, and it uses Huawei's driver-assistance technology. Using Huawei's software and electronics, it set AITO apart as a technology-focused challenger built by Seres.
