STORY

The Alfasud, launched in 1971, was a groundbreaking compact designed by Rudolf Hruska and styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, powered by a flat-four boxer engine driving the front wheels. Built at a new plant near Naples to bring industry to southern Italy, it was praised for handling and packaging but plagued by rust. Its boxer engine and platform underpinned Alfa's compact range for years.
