STORY

The B8 nameplate returned in 2021 on the B8 Gran Coupé, Alpina's take on BMW's 8-Series Gran Coupé and, in effect, the successor to the B6 Gran Coupé. It sits near the top of the modern Alpina range as a four-door super-GT.

Under the bonnet is Alpina's comprehensively reworked version of BMW's N63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, with new pistons, turbochargers, intercooler and intake and exhaust manifolds. It produces about 612 PS and over 800 Nm, close to the M8 Competition's power but with more torque and a softer, longer-legged delivery. Standard xDrive and an eight-speed automatic with Switch-Tronic make it a discreet, all-weather 320 km/h saloon.

Positioned as the calm, luxurious antidote to the harder-edged M8, the B8 Gran Coupé is one of the last true Buchloe-era Alpinas, a fitting flagship as the brand's independent chapter drew to a close.
