STORY
The C2 continued the early-Alpina C-car line onto the E30 3-Series, extending the formula that established Alpina as a recognised manufacturer. Introduced in uncatalysed C2/1 form in February 1986, it used a larger 2.7-litre six producing around 210 PS at 5,800 rpm. It was brisk, refined and unmistakably Alpina in its detailing.
Arriving after Alpina's 1983 registration as a car maker, the C2 wore the full house identity: Alpina script, pinstripes, Classic wheels and a hand-finished cabin, sold as a complete Alpina-badged car rather than a converted BMW. It bridged the gap between the pioneering C1 and the long line of 3-Series-based B3 models that followed.
Rare even by Alpina standards, the C2 2.7 is prized today as one of the definitive small Alpinas of the 1980s, proof that the marque's magic worked as well on a compact saloon as on its V8 and V12 flagships.
