Ambassador

1967 – 1974

The Ambassador was AMC's full-size flagship, one of the longest-running American nameplates, offered in its AMC form from the late 1950s until 1974. It provided luxury features, a longer wheelbase, and V8 power up to the 401 cubic inch engine. The top Brougham trim added premium interior appointments and standard equipment. Rising fuel prices and changing tastes led AMC to end the model after 1974.

The Story

Why the Ambassador matters

Nash used the Ambassador name for its largest cars, and it stayed on AMC's biggest model after the 1954 merger with Hudson. The generation was sold from 1967 to 1974 under the AMC name. Engines ranged from the 232 cu in six to V8s of up to 401 cu in. The Ambassador was dropped after 1974.
