STORY

AMC launched the Javelin for 1968 as a sporty coupe aimed at the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. The first generation ran from 1968 to 1970 with a 232 cu in six and V8s of 290, 343 and 390 cu in, the 390 offered from mid-1968 in the Go package. A second generation followed from 1971 to 1974 with sixes of 232 and 258 cu in and V8s of 304, 360 and 401 cu in, and the AMX became its top trim. Javelins won the Trans-Am title for AMC in 1971 and 1972, and Mark Donohue drove for Roger Penske's team. The Javelin ended after the 1974 model year.
