STORY

The Rebel was built from 1967 to 1970 as AMC's mid-size car, on a shorter version of the Ambassador platform. Engines ranged from sixes to V8s of up to 390 cu in. The 1970 Rebel Machine, developed with Hurst Performance and fitted with a 390 cu in V8 rated at 340 hp, was the best-known performance version. For 1971 the Rebel became the Matador.
