STORY
Launched at the New York Auto Show in April 1950, the DB2 was the first Aston Martin to carry W.O. Bentley's twin-overhead-cam 2.6-litre Lagonda straight-six, giving the marque a genuinely fast and refined grand tourer. Bodied as a fastback two-seat sports saloon (and later a drophead coupé), it combined a strong platform chassis with elegant coachwork and set the styling template for the DB line.
In standard tune the 2,580 cc engine produced 105 bhp, with a 125 bhp Vantage option offered from 1950; The Motor recorded a 116 mph top speed. The DB2 also underpinned Aston's early works racing effort, with team cars competing at Le Mans and in the Mille Miglia.
Production ran until April 1953, by which time 411 had been built, making the DB2 the foundation of the DB dynasty that followed.
