STORY
Reviving a name last used in the late 1960s, the 2007 DBS was the flagship of the DB9-era range, a harder, more powerful grand tourer that sat above the DB9 and replaced the V12 Vanquish S at the top of the line. It used a 5.9-litre V12 producing around 510bhp, extensive carbon-fibre bodywork and carbon-ceramic brakes.
It became instantly famous as James Bond's car, debuting in Casino Royale (2006) as the vehicle for Daniel Craig's 007 and returning in Quantum of Solace (2008), which included a spectacular opening roll-over crash on the shores of Lake Garda. The pairing re-cemented Aston Martin's cinematic association after the DB5.
Produced until 2012, the DBS was succeeded by the second-generation Vanquish. The name returned in 2018 on the DBS Superleggera, a 715bhp twin-turbo V12 super-GT built on the DB11 structure, continuing the DBS role as Aston Martin's flagship coupe.
