STORY
The Audi 100 launched on 26 November 1968 as Audi's largest post-war car. Its name originally referred to the engine output of roughly 100 PS. The model re-established Audi as an independent brand within the Volkswagen Group and started a long line of executive saloons.
The third-generation 100 (C3), launched in September 1982, was a milestone in aerodynamics. It had flush glazing, a smoothly tapered tail and careful management of the airflow under the floor. Its smoothest version reached a drag coefficient of just 0.30, a world record for a production saloon at the time. It was marketed as the "aerodynamics world champion," won the 1983 European Car of the Year and influenced the design of a generation of cars. The 100 name was eventually replaced by the Audi A6 in the 1990s.
