The Audi 200 Quattro was Audi Sport's Group A rally car in 1987, the first World Rally Championship season without Group B, and replaced the ageing Quattro. Hannu Mikkola and Walter Röhrl drove it. Röhrl and Christian Geistdorfer finished third on the Monte Carlo Rally. In April Mikkola and co-driver Arne Hertz won the 4,011 km Safari Rally in Kenya, with Röhrl and Geistdorfer second, an Audi one-two. Mikkola and Hertz also took third on the Acropolis Rally. It was the first four-wheel-drive car to win the Safari and the last WRC win for Audi, and the 200 Quattro was the last car Audi ran in rallying as a works team.
