The Story

Why the 200 quattro Trans-Am matters

Audi entered the 1988 Trans-Am Series with the 200 turbo quattro, run by Bob Tullius's Group 44 Racing. The car won eight of the thirteen rounds: Hans-Joachim Stuck four (Cleveland, Brainerd, Meadowlands, Mid-Ohio), Walter Röhrl two (Niagara Falls, St. Petersburg) and Hurley Haywood two (Dallas, Detroit). Haywood won the drivers' championship with 151.5 points and Audi took the manufacturers' title. Audi then moved to IMSA, as the SCCA was changing the rules to two-wheel drive only and banning cars with non-American engines.
