STORY

Introduced in the summer of 1972 as the successor to the Audi F103, the Audi 80 (B1) was a compact executive saloon. It became one of Audi's core high-volume models and was sold in North America as the Audi Fox. Over several generations, for more than two decades, it was the basis of Audi's mid-size range.

The 80 underpinned some of Audi's most important cars. Its Avant estate became the basis of the Porsche-built RS 2, and the B-platform line led directly to the first Audi A4 in 1994. Dependable, well engineered and widely sold, the 80 was the base on which much of Audi's current reputation was built.
