STORY
Introduced in the summer of 1972 as the successor to the Audi F103, the Audi 80 (B1) was a compact executive saloon that became one of Audi's core high-volume models and, in North America, was sold as the Audi Fox. Over successive generations it anchored Audi's mid-size range for more than two decades.
The 80 underpinned some of Audi's most significant cars: its Avant estate spawned the Porsche-built RS 2, and the B-platform lineage evolved directly into the first Audi A4 in 1994. Dependable, well-engineered and widely sold, the 80 was the backbone on which much of Audi's modern reputation was built.
