STORY
The Audi A6 is the direct successor to the long-running Audi 100 executive saloon. While the first A6 (C4) was a renaming of the 100, the definitively new A6 (Typ 4B, C5) was announced in February 1997 on a fresh Volkswagen Group C5 platform, appearing at the Geneva Motor Show that March.
Sitting above the A4, the A6 carried forward the aerodynamic and engineering heritage of the 100 into the premium executive segment, offering saloon and Avant bodies, quattro drive and a broad range of TFSI and TDI engines. High-performance S6 and RS 6 variants added genuine sporting credibility, and the A6 remains one of Audi's most important global models.
