STORY
The smallest S car Audi built was unveiled in February 2014 and shown at Geneva the month after as a three-door and as a five-door Sportback. A 2.0-litre TFSI of 170 kW (231 PS) and 370 Nm drove all four wheels through a Haldex-type multi-plate clutch, which by Audi's wording made these the first standard production cars in the segment with quattro drive; the A1 quattro that preceded them was a run of 333 cars built from 2012. Only a six-speed manual was offered, and the standard A1's rear torsion beam gave way to a four-link axle with firmer damping all round. Production stopped during 2018 together with the three-door A1, and in North America the S1 was sold only in Mexico.
