STORY

The S4 line began with the 1990 S2, a 162 to 169 kW (220 to 230 PS) turbo five-cylinder car that partly replaced the original Quattro. The first car badged S4 was the C4, built from August 1991 with a 2.2-litre turbo five of 169 kW (230 PS), with a 4.2 V8 added in October 1992. In 1994 it was renamed S6 and the S4 name lapsed until 1997, when the B5 returned with a 2.7-litre biturbo V6 of 195 kW (265 PS). The B6 reached Europe in March 2003 with a 4.2 V8 of 253 kW (344 PS), and the B7 kept it. The B8 of 2008 moved to a supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6, and the B9, shown at Frankfurt in 2015, to a turbo 3.0 V6 of 260 kW (354 PS). In Europe the 2019 facelift brought a 3.0-litre turbo diesel with 347 PS.
