STORY

The Audi R18 was the successor to the R15 and marked the next leaps in Audi's Le Mans dominance. The original R18 TDI, powered by a compact V6 TDI, won Le Mans in 2011, and the R18 e-tron quattro that followed became the first hybrid car to win the race in 2012, using front-axle energy recovery alongside its diesel V6.

The diesel-hybrid R18 e-tron quattro then won three consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2012 to 2014, the 2014 car proving faster than its predecessor while using around 22 percent less fuel. It was the pinnacle of Audi's combined diesel-and-hybrid era and the last chapter of a Le Mans campaign that yielded 13 overall victories.
