STORY

The R8 LMS launched Audi Sport customer racing in 2009, and in that first season its drivers took the FIA GT3 European Championship and the ADAC GT Masters. Audi Sport Team WRT won the 2011 Spa 24 Hours with one, the same year Joest-entered cars finished first and second at the Bathurst 12 Hour. The ultra update of 2012 brought Audi Sport Team Phoenix the first outright Audi win at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. A second-generation car followed in 2015, an evolution package shown in Paris in October 2018 and a second one in July 2021. Audi handed over the 310th and last R8 LMS GT3 in November 2024, and the cars stayed homologated afterwards.
