The Story

Why the RS 5 Turbo DTM matters

The RS 5 Turbo DTM was Audi's Class 1 touring car for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in 2019 and 2020, an update of the naturally aspirated RS 5 DTM based on the production RS 5. Its 2.0 litre turbocharged RC8 four cylinder, built on EA888 cylinder blocks, replaced the 4.0 litre V8. Quoted output was 610 hp plus 30 push to pass in 2019 and 580 hp plus 60 in 2020. René Rast won the drivers' title in both years, Audi took the 2019 manufacturers' title, its seventh, and Audi Sport Team Rosberg was the 2019 teams' champion. The car scored 28 wins in 38 races, including a non championship event in Japan, before Audi left DTM after 2020 to focus on Formula E.
