STORY

Launched in September 1990, the Audi S2 was the first model in Audi's long-running "S" performance line and a spiritual successor to the original Quattro coupe. Built on the Coupe body, it used the well-proven 2.2-litre twenty-valve turbocharged inline-five (derived from the Audi 200 20V) driving all four wheels through quattro.

The S2 kept the signature five-cylinder warble alive into the 1990s and directly paved the way for the Porsche-built RS 2 Avant that followed. As the founder of the S badge that now spans Audi's range, the S2 holds an important place in the brand's performance history.
