STORY

Launched in September 1990, the Audi S2 was the first model in Audi's long-running "S" performance line and a spiritual successor to the original Quattro coupe. Built on the Coupe body, it used the proven 2.2-litre twenty-valve turbocharged inline-five (derived from the Audi 200 20V), which drove all four wheels through quattro.

The S2 kept the signature five-cylinder warble into the 1990s and directly prepared the way for the Porsche-built RS 2 Avant that followed. As the first of the S models, a badge that now covers Audi's whole range, the S2 has an important place in the brand's performance history.
