STORY
The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer was BMW's first and only seven-seat compact MPV, created to give families more flexibility than the five-seat Active Tourer on which it was based. Launched in 2015 as the F46, it stretched the Active Tourer's front-wheel-drive UKL platform to add a small third row of seats suitable for children or occasional use.
Like its sibling, the Gran Tourer used transverse three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and offered xDrive all-wheel drive, wrapping practical, van-like packaging in premium BMW trim. It received the same 2018 facelift as the Active Tourer, with updated styling and engines.
The Gran Tourer was a niche product, and BMW discontinued it in 2023 without a direct successor, consolidating its compact MPV effort around the single Active Tourer. It remains a footnote in the range's history, the only time BMW offered three rows of seats in a car this small.
