STORY

The BMW M4 is the modern coupe heir to the M3 legend. When BMW split its model names in 2014, with sedans keeping "3" and coupes/convertibles becoming "4", the two-door high-performance version of the M3 was renamed M4, though mechanically the pair remain twins.

Today's M4 (G82) is powered by the twin-turbocharged S58 3.0-litre straight-six, offered in outputs up to the Competition and CS versions, with rear-wheel drive or M's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Bold styling that includes a divisive tall kidney grille, along with a hardcore CSL variant, has kept it at the centre of BMW's performance identity. Alongside the M3 sedan, the M4 carries the direct bloodline that started with the E30 M3 into the current era.
