STORY
The BMW M4 is the modern coupe successor to the M3. In 2013 BMW split its model names: sedans kept "3", and coupes and convertibles became "4". The two-door high-performance version of the M3 was renamed M4 and arrived in 2014, though mechanically the two cars remain twins.
Today's M4 (G82) is powered by the twin-turbocharged S58 3.0-litre straight-six. Output goes up to the Competition and CS versions, and there is a choice of rear-wheel drive or M's xDrive all-wheel drive. Its bold styling, including a divisive tall kidney grille, and a hardcore CSL variant keep it at the centre of BMW's performance identity. Together with the M3 sedan, the M4 carries on the direct line that started with the E30 M3.
