The Story

Why the Concept 7 Protection matters

BMW revealed the Concept 7 Protection in October 2026 as an armoured version of the 7 Series built on the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid. It is meant to look almost identical to a standard 7 Series from outside.

The concept is built to the BayB standard for civilian protection vehicles in cities and is rated against 9x19 mm and .44 Magnum handgun rounds, but not explosives. It uses thicker bullet-resistant glass, ballistic steel and fibre-reinforced composites in the doors, and reinforced rear windows and roof. An intercom and attack alerts are operated from a handset on the centre console. BMW recalibrated the chassis, brakes, powertrain and driver assistance for the added weight.

It sits below the production BMW 7 Series Protection, which carries the VR9 rating. BMW has not confirmed production, price or timing.
