STORY

The BMW M3 GTR was a purpose-built GT racing car based on the E46 M3. Its key difference was a 4.0-litre P60B40 V8 of around 444 hp in place of the road car's straight-six. It won the 2001 American Le Mans Series GT class. But a rule requiring a road-legal production version led BMW into a homologation dispute, which ended the car's career. Only a handful of road-going M3 GTRs were built, which makes it one of the rarest and most sought-after M cars.
