STORY

The BMW Z8 was a modern tribute to the 507. It was based on the striking 1997 Z07 concept and went into limited production in 2000 as a retro-styled roadster that deliberately echoed the proportions of BMW's beautiful 1950s V8 roadster. It had an all-aluminium chassis and body.

Under the hood was serious hardware: the 4.9-litre S62 V8 shared with the E39 M5, making around 400 hp. The Z8 reached a wide audience as James Bond's car in The World Is Not Enough (1999), though the film famously has a helicopter slice it in half. Only around 5,700 were built, and with its mix of design, rarity and M-car power, the Z8 has become a valuable, sought-after modern collectible.
