STORY

The Special was one of Buick's longest-running nameplates. In the early 1960s it became a Y-body compact, which broke new ground for the brand. The compact Special introduced GM's aluminum 215 V8 and, in the Special and Skylark lines, the new Fireball V6. This compact era set the stage for Buick's later intermediate models.
