The Century nameplate dates to 1936, but it was revived as a mid-size model that ran through several eras, from mid-size Colonnade coupes and sedans in the 1970s to a long-lived front-wheel-drive W-body sedan. The final generation, built from 1997 to 2005, was a value-oriented family sedan powered by the long-running 3.1-liter V6 and aimed at traditional, comfort-first buyers. It was replaced by the LaCrosse when GM consolidated its mid-size Buick offerings.
The Century was a mainstay of the Buick lineup across several generations, from powerful mid-1930s models to the front-wheel-drive family sedans of the 1980s and 1990s. The original Century paired a smaller body with a larger engine, which gave strong performance for its era. Later versions were among the best-selling cars in America, valued for comfort and price.
