STORY

Buick introduced the Skylark Gran Sport in 1965 as a performance version of the Skylark, with a 400 cu in V8. The model was sold as the GS 400 through 1969. For 1970 Buick moved to a 455 cu in V8 and the car became the GS 455. The Stage 1 option for the 455 added revised cylinder heads with larger valves and a more aggressive camshaft. It was rated at 360 gross hp, a figure that is widely thought to be conservative.
