The Dolphin was the first BYD production model on e-Platform 3.0 and went on sale in China at the Chengdu show in August 2021. The launch range used a 30.7 kWh Blade pack rated at 301 km NEDC or a 44.9 kWh pack rated at 405 km NEDC with 70 kW, and a 130 kW top trim rated at 401 km. Prices after subsidies ran from 93,800 to 121,800 yuan. Export cars measure 4,290 mm, and Australia priced the Dolphin at A$38,890 in June 2023 with a 44.9 kWh pack. The smaller Seagull, sold as Dolphin Mini, is a separate model.
The Dolphin is a subcompact battery-electric hatchback and the first model in BYD's Ocean series, built on the e-Platform 3.0. It uses a Blade LFP battery with a front-mounted electric motor and offers multiple range options. Aimed at value-conscious urban buyers, it became a high-volume seller in China and an affordable EV exported to Europe and other markets. It sits in the affordable B-segment electric hatchback class.
