The G3 was BYD's larger step up from the F3 compact, a little longer overall, on a wheelbase 10 mm longer. It launched in October 2009 at 76,900 to 109,900 yuan. The 1.5-litre engine came from Mitsubishi (4G15S) or was BYD's own 473QB, and a 1.8-litre 483QA was offered with a CVT. A five-door hatchback, the G3R, was shown at the Guangzhou show in December 2010 and was due on sale on 8 April 2011; its 2,600 mm wheelbase is 10 mm shorter than the sedan's 2,610 mm.
The G3 is a compact sedan (also offered as a hatchback) produced by BYD from around 2009 with conventional gasoline engines. Positioned above the F3 as a slightly more upscale family car, it targeted value-oriented Chinese buyers. It was part of BYD's early ICE lineup before the company's electrification push. It predates the Blade battery and e-Platform architectures.
