BYD showed the L3 compact sedan at the Beijing show in April 2010, where only the 1.8 L CVT version debuted and the 1.5 L and manual cars were described as coming soon. It was listed in August 2010 from 92,800 yuan. The 1.8 L engine made 90 kW (122 hp) and 160 N·m, and the body was 4,568 mm long on a 2,615 mm wheelbase. The interior resembled the G3's, and it was sold above the G3 as the more upmarket choice. Reports from 2013 give the 1.5 L as 109 hp and the 1.8 L as 122 hp, with a 1.2 L turbo seen in spy shots.
The L3 is a compact petrol sedan that BYD introduced in 2010 on the same platform as the F3, sold above the F3 and the G3. It launched with a 1.8-litre engine and a CVT, and a 1.5-litre engine followed. It targeted family buyers in China. It predates the Blade battery and e-Platform technologies.
