The first M6 was a seven-seat petrol MPV that BYD showed at the Beijing show in April 2010. Its launch ceremony in Beijing on 29 September 2010 ended a nationwide tour, with prices of 139,800 to 239,800 yuan. BYD listed a 2.0 L BYD 483QB with a manual gearbox and a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4 L automatic; the body was 4,820 mm long on a 2,960 mm wheelbase. The name returned in 2024 on an unrelated electric MPV, a Song Max EV renamed M6, launched in Indonesia on 17 July 2024 with 55.4 or 71.8 kWh Blade batteries and NEDC ranges of 420 and 530 km.
The M6 is a battery-electric MPV that BYD offers mainly in export markets from 2024. It is the Song Max EV renamed, with styling close to the e6. It uses a Blade LFP battery with an electric motor and offers three rows of seats. Positioned as a practical family and fleet people-mover, it competes in the affordable electric MPV segment. It broadens BYD's overseas passenger lineup beyond SUVs and sedans.
