The S6 was BYD's first SUV. It was shown at the Beijing show in April 2010, rolled off the line at Pingshan in Shenzhen in April 2011 and went on sale in May 2011. Buyers chose a BYD-built 2.0 L (103 kW, 186 N·m) or a Mitsubishi 2.4 L (118 kW). It measured 4,810 mm long on a 2,720 mm wheelbase, and the press compared its side profile with the previous Lexus RX. BYD sold 45,186 in 2011. In October 2014 BYD launched the S7, described as a more powerful, more luxurious version with a 207 hp 2.0 L turbo.
The S6 is a mid-size gasoline crossover SUV produced by BYD from 2011 to 2016 with 1.5-liter turbo and 2.4-liter engines. It offered value-focused family SUV packaging and sold in large numbers in China. It belonged to BYD's conventional ICE lineup before the company's full electrification. It predates the Blade battery and e-Platform architectures.
