STORY

The Series 62 arrived for 1940 as Cadillac's volume line and stayed for a quarter of a century, outliving the L-head V8, the war, the tailfin and the arrival of the overhead-valve 331. It carried the model names that later left home: the 1949 Coupe de Ville hardtop and the Sedan de Ville both began as Series 62 body styles before becoming nameplates of their own. By 1964, its last year, the series had grown to the 429 cubic inch V8 and was replaced by the Calais.
