STORY

The Citation was released in April 1979 as a 1980 model and was Chevrolet's first front-drive car, replacing the Nova. More than 800,000 were sold in 1980, and a little over 1.6 million were built before production ended with the 1985 model year, the last two as the Citation II. In August 1983 the federal government sued General Motors, alleging that rear brakes locked prematurely on about 1.1 million 1980 X-cars, a group that included the Citation. A judge ruled for GM in April 1987.
