STORY

In June 2003 it was reported that the Cobalt was expected to replace the 22-year-old Cavalier in the United States as the 2005 model, with production at Lordstown, Ohio. It was sold as a coupe and a sedan, and the US run covered the 2005 to 2010 model years. The first SS of 2005 had a supercharged four of 205 hp. For 2008 the Cobalt SS moved to a turbocharged 2.0 L direct-injection Ecotec four rated at 260 hp, offered first as a coupe, with the sedan following for 2009.
