STORY

When Chevrolet launched the Advance-Design range in June 1947 it split the line by hood plate: the light 3000-series trucks read Thriftmaster, the heavy Series 4000, 5000 and 6000 read Loadmaster. Loadmaster was never a single model - it was the name of Chevrolet's medium- and heavy-duty range, covering 1.5-ton conventionals on 137- and 161-inch wheelbases, cab-over-engine chassis from 110 to 158 inches, 2-ton conventionals and school-bus chassis.

The Loadmaster models were visibly bigger - taller and wider cab, hood, grille and fenders - and every truck over 11,000 lb gross rode an entirely new frame with 8-7/8 inch side rails. The 4000 series used the same 216.5 cu in six as the light trucks, with the heavy-duty 235.5 optional; the 5000 and 6000 series had the 235.5 as standard, rated 90 and 93 hp gross at 3,100 rpm. All ran a four-speed sliding-gear transmission with provision for a power take-off.

Ringbrothers built its SEMA 2022 super truck ENYO from a 1948 Loadmaster.
