STORY
The Chevrolet LUV, short for Light Utility Vehicle, was an Isuzu Faster pickup that Chevrolet dealers sold in the United States from 1972 to 1982, answering the Japanese compact trucks of the day. The only engine at first was a 1.8-liter four with 75 hp and a four-speed manual. To cut the 25 percent light-truck tariff to 4 percent, LUVs were imported as cab-chassis units and the bed was fitted in the US. Four-wheel drive came in 1979, the year Motor Trend named the LUV its Truck of the Year. A second generation followed for 1981, and the Chevrolet S-10 replaced the LUV after the 1982 model year.
