In North America the Metro carried a Chevrolet badge from the 1998 model year, after GM dropped the Geo brand following 1997. It was derived from the Suzuki Cultus and built at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. The base car kept a three-cylinder engine, while the LSi used a 79 hp 1.3 L four, and the hatchback measured 149.4 in. The ACEEE named the Metro and the Suzuki Swift the two greenest gasoline cars in its 1998 and 1999 guides. CAMI stopped building the Metro in April 2001.
The Metro was a subcompact sold under the Chevrolet name from 1998 to 2001, a rebadged Suzuki known for high fuel economy. It carried on the earlier Geo Metro under the Chevrolet name.
