STORY

Chevrolet showed the Sonic at the Detroit show on January 10, 2011, in hatchback form and, for the first time, as a sedan, after the car had first appeared at the Paris show as the Aveo. GM renamed it for the Chevrolet lineup. Production started in early August 2011 at Orion Township, Michigan; its engines were shared with the Cruze, among them an optional 1.4-liter turbo estimated at 138 hp. US sales fell to 13,971 cars in 2019, and Chevrolet told dealers in June 2020 that it would stop production that October because of declining demand.
