STORY
The Chrysler Newport was a long-serving full-size nameplate that served as the brand's entry-level big car. In its final iteration from 1979 to 1981 it rode Chrysler's downsized R-body platform, shedding weight and length in response to fuel-economy pressures. It was discontinued after 1981 as Chrysler moved toward smaller front-wheel-drive cars.
