STORY

Conceived before World War II under André Lefèbvre and Pierre Boulanger to motorise rural France, the 2CV ('deux chevaux') was unveiled at the 1948 Paris Salon and stayed in production for over 42 years. It had an air-cooled flat-twin engine, soft interconnected suspension, a roll-back canvas roof and minimalist practicality, and it became one of the best-loved cars in French history. More than five million 2CV cars and vans were built, besides derivatives such as the Dyane, Ami and Méhari before production ended in Portugal in 1990.
