The Citroën DS was launched at the 1955 Paris Motor Show with an aerodynamic body by Flaminio Bertoni and hydropneumatic suspension. It reportedly took 12,000 orders on its first day. It pioneered features such as self-levelling ride, powered disc brakes and, from 1967, directional swivelling headlamps. Over 1.4 million were built before production ended in 1975, and the DS is widely regarded as one of the most influential cars ever made.
