STORY

The Applause was Daihatsu's compact family car, sold from 1989. Its bootlid opened like a saloon's, but the whole rear section lifted to reveal a large cargo opening. It was built on the A101 platform and offered with 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines and optional four-wheel drive. It was praised for its practicality and refinement, but it sold in modest numbers and stayed a single-generation model.
