STORY

The Compagno, introduced in 1963, was Daihatsu's first four-wheeled passenger car and its move upmarket from three-wheelers and kei vehicles. The Italian design house Vignale styled it. It came as a sedan, wagon, convertible and pick-up, and the Compagno Spider was one of the first Japanese cars officially exported to the United Kingdom. It had a small four-cylinder engine and marked Daihatsu's entry into the conventional car market.
