STORY
John DeLorean founded the DeLorean Motor Company, and the first DMC-12 left its factory at Dunmurry, near Belfast in Northern Ireland, on 21 January 1981. Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign styled the car. Brushed stainless steel panels were fixed to a fibreglass underbody, and the doors opened upward like gull wings. The rear-mounted 2.85-litre PRV V6 made 130 PS and came with a five-speed manual or an automatic. Production stopped in the early 1980s with fewer than 10,000 cars built. The DMC-12 became widely known as the time machine in the 1985 film Back to the Future.
